Enter your ‘GUMP’ is an exploration if escapism into the realm of familiar comforts. Revert back to the childlike appreciation of video games and cartoons and their ability to offer a new world abstracted by pixels, colour and softened edges. By toning down the noise and the unnecessary, I study the basics of our surrounding and explore how simplicity offers a form of escape.
Lost and Find
Every world needs its characters. Help these lost and dazed characters, woozy and confused by our busy and misleading world and bring them back to the calm and ethereal world of GUMP.
Abstracted Scenery
In this series of paintings I explored the way in which I can combine selective colours with with simple suburban features drawn with fine liner. I feel that the simplicity of the art work and disruption of fine liner with paint offers a sense of clarity.
"Sun-drenched" and "Ethereal" are words of inspiration that I have taken from artist works such as Hiroshi Nagai and Mariam Medem whilst exploring the ways that they present illustrations of settings full of expression yet purity.
